## Challenges to Conflict Mediation in a Fragmenting International System

The speaker will outline some of the major international developments that have challenged the practice of conflict mediation in recent years – including the return of geopolitics, the proliferation of armed conflicts, erosion of long-accepted norms in international relations, and increasing competition in the mediation space. He will reflect on how mediators will need to adapt to this changing context - which presents opportunities as well as challenges - in order to ensure that their peacemaking tools remain fit for purpose for the dangerous decades ahead.

### Speaker

- Paul Dziatkowiec, Director of Mediation and Peace Support, Geneva Centre for Security Policy.
