Sasha de Vogel is a Raphael Morrison Dorman Memorial Postdoctoral Fellow this year. She obtained her BA and MA from Columbia University, and a PhD in political science in 2021 from the University of Michigan. Her dissertation, titled “Protest Mobilization, Concessions, and Policy Change in Autocracies,” won the Juan Linz Prize for Best Dissertation in the Comparative Study of Democracy from APSA. Last year she was a postdoctoral fellow at NYU’s Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia. Her research combines interests in authoritarianism, institutional politics, and collective action, with regional expertise on Russia and the former Soviet Union. This year she is working on turning her dissertation into a book. 

Research interests: Authoritarianism; institutional politics; protest; repression; authoritarian responsiveness; urban politics; mixed methodology; and Russian and post-Soviet politics.
