WSP Seminar with Fellow Lúcio Vinhas de Souza — “One Damn Thing after Another: A Hundred Years of Monetary Policy and Multiple Crises around the World”
The title of this talk refers to the sheer number (and scale) of crisis that the global economy and the global monetary system experienced just during the lifetime of its speaker. The talk will address the collapse of several global monetary frameworks and occasional inflationary and deflationary waves, from the gold standard to gold-pegged frameworks to the current system of freely floating fiat currencies, deliberately also covering Developing countries throughout this narrative. After this brief historic “tour d’horizon”, the presentation will open a discussion on what may lie ahead for monetary policy.
