Weatherhead Scholars Program Seminar Presentation by Thijs van Dooremalen: "The Double Path Dependence of Critical Junctures"

Research interests: Events; social change; political sociology; cultural sociology; cross-national comparisons; and cultural repertoires.

Bio: Thijs van Dooremalen is a Sociologist, who obtained his PhD from the University of Amsterdam (September 2019) for his thesis The Framing of 9/11 in the American, French, and Dutch Public Spheres (2001–2015). A Contribution to the Sociology of Events. He studied Sociology at Utrecht University, the University of Mannheim and the University of Amsterdam (2006–2011), and taught Sociology at the University of Amsterdam (2011–2012) and Political Science at Leiden University (2017–2020). As part of his PhD training, he spent research time at Washington University St. Louis, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (Paris Campus) and the Graduate Center of City University New York. Thijs will use his time as a Postdoctoral Fellow to further develop his work on the Sociology of Events.
