Dean Kyne is an environmental sociologist whose research focuses on disasters, public health, resilience, governance, humanitarian crises, environmental justice, and community recovery. Using mixed methods, geospatial analysis, and GIS-based approaches, his work examines how communities respond to and recover from natural hazards, conflict, displacement, and institutional disruption. He is a Full Professor of Sociology and Disaster Studies and Director of the Disaster Studies Program at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. He received his PhD in Environmental Social Science from Arizona State University.

Research Interests: Disaster studies and governance; resilience; humanitarian response; environmental sociology; conflict-affected communities; justice; social vulnerability; GIS and spatial analysis; sustainability; public policy; and border communities.
