Do Young Gong

Do Young Gong is a political scientist whose research examines the causes and consequences of political violence, including civil wars, coups, and protests. Using a combination of quantitative methods, machine learning, and qualitative analysis, her work explores how different forms of violence interact with one another, how economic conditions shape violence, and how domestic conflict influences—and is influenced by—international engagement. She received her PhD in Political Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2026 and is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Western Ontario (on leave for AY 2026–2027).

Research Interests: Political violence; conflict management and resolution; and political economy of violence.
